What the data says
Of the 269 pupils who finished Year 11 at Harton Academy in 2023, 33% stayed on in Harton Academy’s own sixth form (South Tyneside average 27%), 49% went to a further education college and 7% started an apprenticeship.
Among the 132 students who left the sixth form in 2023, 74% went to university (South Tyneside 28%, England 37%), and 35% of level 3 students progressed to one of the most selective universities, against 19% nationally.
Design and Technology is unusually popular at GCSE: 24% of the year group took it, against 11% of pupils across England.
GCSE results in 2025 were below the national picture: Attainment 8 of 42.6 against 46.1 across England and 42.7 in South Tyneside, with 38% of pupils getting grade 5 or above in both English and maths (England 45%).
