Of the 131 pupils who finished Year 11 at Burnside College in 2023, 24% stayed on in Burnside College’s own sixth form (North Tyneside average 40%), 57% went to a further education college and 5% started an apprenticeship.
Among the 69 students who left the sixth form in 2023, 58% went to university (North Tyneside 57%, England 37%), and 17% of level 3 students progressed to one of the most selective universities, against 19% nationally.
Spanish is unusually popular at GCSE: 50% of the year group took it, against 19% of pupils across England.
GCSE results in 2025 were in line with the national picture: Attainment 8 of 44.2 against 46.1 across England and 46.0 in North Tyneside, with 31% of pupils getting grade 5 or above in both English and maths (England 45%).
